Automatically Import Latest Episode Of A Podcast Using An RSS Feed

Modified on Tue, 24 Sep at 12:40 PM

In this article, we will explain how to automatically download the latest episode of a Podcast using AutoImporter v6.

Prerequisites:

  • Myriad v6.2.1 (or higher).
  • AutoImporter v6.2.1 (or higher).
  • RSS Feed file for Podcasts.

You should also insure you have permission from the Podcast creator to use their content.

Setting Up A Podcast Group In AutoImporter

Follow these steps to create a new AutoImporter Group that will automatically download the latest episode of a Podcast based on the RSS feed file.

  1. In AutoImporter, click on the Importers Menu and select Add new Importer Group.

  2. Give the Importer Group a suitable Name and select the Latest episode from a Podcast feed option.

  3. Paste in the location URL for the RSS feed for your Podcast provider.

  4. Select the Destination Type and optional Category. In this example, the Podcast is a pre-recorded show so we will import as a Basic Item into a specific Media ID what can be added to the Clocks we want to feature the latest episode. You can select any of the Media Item Types available and optionally select a Category associated with that Item Type (i.e Song > Pop)

  5. Next, set the Media ID, Media Range or Default Range (for Item Type) that the file will be imported into. In this example, we want to import the latest episode into a fixed Media ID that will be included in the Clocks we want to use to play the content. We also want to tick the Overwrite the item if it already exists option as want to replace the previous episode with the latest. In the example below, the latest episode will be imported in to Media ID 6450.

  6. Click on Finish to complete the AutoImporter Group setup.

The new Group will be added to the list and the first episode will be downloaded shortly after. AutoImporter will check the RSS feed regularly and update to the latest episode once it is available.

The Podcast Episode will be available on the Media Wall once it has finished downloading and importing.
