Using Myriad Replication To Synchronise Data Between Stations At Remote Sites And/Or Myriad Cloud.

The Myriad Replication tool is included with Myriad 6 Playout to allow you to setup data replication between multiple Myriad 6 Playout sites as well as between Myriad 6 Playout and Myriad Cloud instances.

Modes Of Operation & Data Options

The Replication can be setup operate in the following modes:

• Download - Selected data will be downloaded from a remote site but data will not be uploaded.
• Upload - Selected data will be uploaded to a remote site but data will not be downloaded.
• Bidirectional - Selected data will be replicated in both directions with content or changes made at one site replicated to the other(s).

Not all data that can be replicated, the list below includes all the data that can be synchronised using the Replication tool.

• Database Settings - Database Settings can be replicated in a single direction or bi-bidirectionally. There are some exception as not all Database Settings make sense to automatically replicate.
• Station Settings - Station Settings can be replicated in a single direction or bi-bidirectionally. There are some exception as some Station Settings need to be set locally.
• Schedule Information - This includes all your Clocks and Rules.
• Schedule Log (Range & Station) - You can synchronise Schedule Log in a single direction or bi-bidirectionally. You can select the date/time range and also the Station log to replicate. N.B. The current hour is not replicated.
• Media Items (Specific range) - Replicate can synchronise content in a single direction or bi-bidirectionally. You can select whether to synchronise all content or limit the process to content that has changed since the last synchronise. You can also opt to Replicate the content in a specific range.

Please note that currently, Users are not Replicated.

Manual Replication

To manually trigger a Replication Process, follow these steps.

Turn On Replication & Set Connection Details

1. First, setup Myriad 6 Playout to allow replication to another site. Click on Settings Menu > Database Settings > General Tab.
   
   
   
   
2. Tick the option to Store additional information to allow the database to be replicated.
3. Tick the option to Allow replication to another Myriad System.
4. Set the Server Name / IP  Address details. You have two options depending whether the remote system is on the same network (connect direct to RES) or on an unrelated network (bounce through Myriad Anywhere).
   1. If the remote system is on the same network (local, wan or VPN) then you can connect directly to the Remote Edit Server (RES) at the remote site. In this case, add in the name or IP address of the remote PC running RES.
   2. If the remote system is not on the same network or is a Myriad Cloud system then the data will need to be 'bounced' through Myriad Anywhere. In this instance, type in your Myriad Anywhere URL (xxxxx.myriadanywhere.com). N.B. There is an additional charge for this, please contact Broadcast Radio for more information.
5. Set the Port as appropriate.
   1. Port 6947 for connecting directly to RES on a remote system on the same network.
   2. Port 443 for connecting to a Myriad Anywhere hosted replication.
   3. You can also set a manual Port if required.
6. Type in a Username.
7. Type in your Password.
8. Click on OK to save the settings and close the Database Settings window.

Use Replication Tool To Trigger Manual Replication

Now that the location is set, you can use the Replication Tool to manually initiate a replication.

1. Click on Station Menu > Replicate The Data With Remote Station option.
   
   
   
   
2. Set the type of replication you want to trigger.
   
   
   
   
   
   1. Download - Selected data will be downloaded from a remote site but data will not be uploaded.
   2. Bidirectional - Selected data will be replicated in both directions with content or changes made at one site replicated to the other(s).
   3. Upload - Selected data will be uploaded to a remote site but data will not be downloaded.
      
      
3. Choose one or more types of data you want to replicate.
   
   
   
   The options are:
   
   
   1. Database Settings - Database Settings can be replicated in a single direction or bi-bidirectionally. There are some exception as not all Database Settings make sense to automatically replicate.
   2. Station Settings - Station Settings can be replicated in a single direction or bi-bidirectionally. There are some exception as some Station Settings need to be set locally.
   3. Schedule Information - This includes all your Clocks and Rules.
   4. Schedule Log (Range & Station) - You can synchronise Schedule Log in a single direction or bi-bidirectionally. You can select the date/time range and also the Station log to replicate. N.B. The current hour is not replicated.
   5. Media Items (Specific range) - Replicate can synchronise content in a single direction or bi-bidirectionally. You can select whether to synchronise all content or limit the process to content that has changed since the last synchronise. You can also opt to Replicate the content in a specific range.
      
      
4. Once you are happy with your selection, click on Start Replication to start the process. You will see a progress window showing the replication in action.

Automated Replication Processes

Myriad Playout v6.4 introduces the powerful new Myriad Tasks system that makes setting up Replication Tasks very simple - please see this article for more information.

If you are using an older version of Myriad Playout (e.g. v6.3 or earlier) or need to replicate with multiple sites, then you can use the Command line utility instead:

To trigger the Replication Process automatically, you need to setup tasks to run via Windows Task Manager or similar, using the Myriad Command Line Utility which is installed alongside Myriad 6 Playout.

You will need to be familiar with the Command Line Utility, writting batch files (.bat) and scheduling them using Windows Task Scheduler.

The settings for triggering Replications can be found in the Myriad Command Line Utility v6 Command Line Options document which can be accessed via the Start Menu in the Myriad 6 Playout applications folder.

This document is updated with each release of Myriad so you should check your installed version for the latest information.

Open the document and then click on the ReplicateWithRemote option.

This will take you to the section of the document that lists the Replication options.

By combining the CommandLineUtility.exe application with the appropriate 'switched' you can trigger a desired replication.

For example: 

"MyriadUtilityCL6.exe" /action=ReplicateWithRemote /ReplicationActions=ChangedMedia

Would trigger a replication of all Media that has changed since last replication. As we didn't specify a direction, it would default to the most recent update being synchronised.

You can build multiple Replications processes into a .BAT file that can be scheduled to run periodically using Windows Task Scheduler.

Future versions of Myriad may include the ability to schedule Replications from within the Myriad Playout application.
