Introduction

If you need to train people to use Myriad Playout without affecting your 'On Air' Log then the answer is to setup a child 'training' Station that can be accessed by any workstation and used and safely edited without changing your main 'On Air' Log.

The main advantages are:

  • Have a second Station Log to train presenters on log editing, voice tracking and presenting live shows.
  • Log content will be duplicated from the 'Parent' Station so the training content will be the same as the 'On Air' Log.
  • 'Training Stations' will not send information to OCP and will step over any Split events, Commands* or Hardware Items meaning it is safe to use for training presenters to present 'live shows' without affecting your real world 'on air' output.

*Caution - Commands attached to timing events in Media Items will still execute in Training Stations (as they are triggered by the Media Item, not the Log. So if you use this method to trigger events that could affect your On Air output, keep this in mind.

Setting up a 'Training Station'

To setup a 'Training Station' follow these steps:

  1. In Myriad Playout click on Settings Menu > Database Settings > Database Settings.

  4. Your new 'Training Station' will now be listed in the Stations Tab.

Click on OK to close this window.

Switching to the Training Station

To view and use your Training Station, you need to close the current Station and open the Training Station.

Warning: Do not do this on your 'on air' system when it is broadcasting live as closing the Station will stop playout after the current Media Item has finished.

Follow these steps:

  1. In Myriad Playout click on File Menu > Open Station.

  2. You will be asked to confirm you want to close the current Station and open a new Station. Click on Yes.

Populating hours in the log from the 'Parent' Station

By default, hours in the Log for Training Stations will be unpopulated.

Filling an hour at a time

To fill an hour in the Log, click on the Fill this hour option for the hour you want to fill. Myriad Playout will now do the following:

  • Check the Parent Log to see if that hour has content scheduled and if content is found, it is copied to the matching hour in the Child Station.
  • If the Parent Log does not have anything scheduled for the selected hour, Myriad Playout will use either Myriad Schedule or Import Log File depending on the Schedule Settings in the 'Parent' Station (or the settings in the Child Station if it is set to maintain it's own settings).

Filling a longer period

If you want to fill content in the Log for a longer period you can use the Schedule Log option on the Hour/Import tab to manually select the date / time range to fill.

This will open the standard Schedule Log window, however, when you select the date/time range and then click on the Schedule Button the system will:

  • Check the Parent Log to see if that hour has content scheduled and if content is found, it is copied to the matching hour in the Child Station.
  • If the Parent Log does not have anything scheduled for the selected hour, Myriad Playout will use either Myriad Schedule or Import Log File depending on the Schedule Settings in the 'Parent' Station (or the settings in the Child Station if it is set to maintain it's own settings).

The Training Station Log will be filled for the selected duration using either content from the 'Parent' Station or imported/scheduled content if the selected period in the 'Parent' Station is unscheduled.#

Manually building content

You can also manually add content to an hour in the 'Child' Station using any of the normal methods including:

  • Dragging content from the Media Wall or Library.
  • Manually import a Log file or exported Log section file.
  • Push content from a Pad list to the Log.

Automatically importing from the 'Parent' Station

There is normally no reason to maintain an automatic import from the 'Parent' Station as you can use the Fill this hour option to populate any hours you wish to use for training.

Automatic scheduling in Myriad 5 Playout is undertaken by the 'On Air' workstation but as a training Station is never 'On Air' there is nothing to perform this task.

So if you have a reason that you need to maintain a rolling 'Training' Station that is populated from the 'Parent' station then you will need to schedule a Command Line Utility task using Scheduled Tasks. This process is beyond the scope of this help article.
