How to use custom audio outputs in Myriad Anywhere on Mozilla Firefox

Modified on Tue, 24 Sep at 12:47 PM

When you try to set the output device on Mozilla Firefox, you may find that the list of output devices only lets you pick Default Output. To use custom audio outputs on Firefox, we need to edit its configuration. Screenshot_2020-10-26_at_10.34.00.png

Installing Mozilla Firefox

On some devices, you will get better performance from Mozilla Firefox when recording in Myriad Anywhere.

If you don't already have Firefox installed, download a copy from the Mozilla website.

Enabling the 'setsinkid' feature.

Accurate as of the time of writing, Firefox won't let you pick an audio output device, and will use the default one configured on your computer. We are about to enable this 'experimental' feature.

First, open Firefox. In the address bar, type about:config and press Go.

Indeed, let's be careful not to inadvertently change the wrong setting. Click "Accept the Risk and Continue". This will take you into a screen called Advanced Preferences.

In the search bar, type "setsinkid". You will see something that looks like this - "media.setsinkid.enabled" is set to "false".

Double-click on false. It will turn bold and change to "true".

Restart Firefox, and you should now see the correct options in the Output choice box.

If the box is still empty, you may not have given Myriad Anywhere permission to use the microphone. To do this without restarting Anywhere, we can flip the radio buttons at the top, and Firefox will ask us to give permission again.

When you change back to "No, let me specify custom devices", Firefox will ask for your permission. Click Allow. We also recommend choosing "Remember this decision" so you don't need to do this again.
