Myriad Cloud: Setting Up Presenter Contribution Streams

Modified on Tue, 24 Sep at 12:53 PM

Scenario

An increasingly common way of using Myriad Cloud is to have your Cloud Station set-up as your main "automation" station, with presenters sending live programming from a home studio.

Myriad Cloud Professional and Myriad Cloud Ultimate both support BR Live for real-time audio, however some users on more limited connections may find it is not suitable for sending whole programmes due to the unpredictability of the internet at the low latencies it uses. For these users, we recommend setting up your Myriad Cloud to connect and "pull" from an external stream that your presenter then sends their program to.

This article will walk you through how to set this up with Myriad Cloud.

Step 1: Create the Presenter Accounts

The first step is to create user accounts for each presenter through the Broadcast.Radio Portal. This will then automatically creates them a private streaming server just for them to use to stream to your Myriad Cloud station.

Click "Add" in the top right corner and fill out the presenter's Name, Email address and select the appropriate password option. In the "Role" dropdown, make sure you have selected at least the "Contributor" role.

Presenters can use any streaming software (such as B.U.T.T.) or the Broadcast Radio Encoder application to stream to Myriad Cloud.

Step 2: Create Streaming Media Items for each Presenter

Once you have added the Presenter, click on the "Get Link" option, then press the purple Copy icon to copy the streaming link to your clipboard.

Next, log into Myriad Anywhere and choose Media Management.

Click on Media Grid, find an empty cart, and press Edit.

In the Type drop-down, choose Song.

Right click on the Use a specific streaming URL text box and right click and select Paste to paste in the link you obtained earlier.

Lastly, let's configure how long the Media Item can play for which is the maximum time you want to play the stream for - note that this is a maximum duration - so if you want the stream to play for 59 minutes and 30 seconds, then enter 00:59:30.000

If the Streaming Media Item is set up as a Song, Myriad will respect the timing instructions around the stream, for example, if you have an hour with an absolute time at 00:30:00, the stream will only play for 30 minutes, even if its maximum duration is 1 hour.

Finally, press Save and make a note of the Media's number (in this example, 1002).

Step 3: Scheduling The Presenter Contribution Stream

From the Myriad Anywhere Launchpad, choose Schedule, then on the left navigation menu, choose Edit Clock Assignments.

This will bring up the clock assignment window.

From the ribbon, click the Add New Clock button.

Select Advanced Clock, and choose No if asked "Would you like Clock Items to be automatically generated based on the Category Goals?"

Next, drag-and-drop a "Song" or "Media item" from the left hand side into the empty clock.

Finally, we need to tell Myriad to always schedule our Presenter Stream. Double click on the new row in the Clock, and enter the Media ID number we noted earlier - in our example it's 2001:

Press Save.

You can now assign this Clock to play on schedule:

Presenter Setup - Connecting Your Encoder

Presenters can find their streaming details by logging into the Broadcast.Radio Portal and clicking on their profile icon in the top right corner.

These settings are compatible with all major encoding products, including the Broadcast Radio Encoder, Broadcast Using This Tool (B.U.T.T), Barix Instreamer, etc:

Once the user has configured their encoding software then just click to start encoding and Myriad will be able to "pull" from that stream at the correct time based on the Clock Assignment grid and Scheduled Log.
